Our Story

Henry & Sons Original Vegetarian Dog Cookie is more than a business for owner, Tom Gibbons, it's a passion! His deep love and appreciation for animals, combined with his profound interest in health and nutrition, have led to the development of great cookies and a company with heart, dedicated to pet health and proper nutrition.

In 1979, Christine Hatherly. an elementary school teacher, researched and created a wholesome dog treat, brimming with anticarcinogenics and phytonutrients, to help her ailing, mature Wire-Haired Terriers, Mike and Penny.  Sadly, the father-and-daughter dogs were eventually lost to liver cancer; but, both outlived the prognosis by many months.  Inspired by Henry, her lively Wire-Haired Terrier pup, Christine decided to continue the creation of health-giving natural dog treats.  The LUCKY PENNY Dog Cookie Company was born.  Using organic and fresh ingredients, Christine knew other pet owners would want the best for their dogs.  Her powerful vegetarian formula was sought-after by dog owners and veterinarians across the country.  The legendary film star, singer and animal lover, Doris Day, became a loyal and encouraging customer.

In 1999, Christine passed the bakery baton to Tom Gibbons, a California native.  Tom's enthusiastic commitment to canine health and a positive, earth friendly philosophy took the original carrot formula and ran with it.  In honor of Henry, Christine's beloved Terrier mascot, Tom named the new company HENRY & SONS Vegetarian Dog Cookie.

Today, Henry & Sons offers a growing selection of Beta-Carotene veggie and vegan formulas, packed with natural super-foods, organic grains and healing herbal extracts - for the well-being of your dog.

It is readily obvious that Tom has found his true calling as the owner of Henry & Sons, and as a passionate advocate for pet health and nutrition. Since the development of the first Lucky Penny recipe, nutritional experts have uncovered new evidence and formulated new ideas about pet health and nutrition. With this new evidence in hand, and with the aid and support of numerous respected and highly-valued animal health professionals, Tom has developed new recipes to address the nutritional needs of his furry (and feathered) friends.  Henry & Sons uses only the freshest and purest natural ingredients, all fit for human consumption. All ingredients are selected with an eye towards optimum health and nutritional food-value. 

Unlike other pet treats, which contain possible harmful ingredients or empty calories, pet owners can safely enjoy any cookie from Henry & Sons right along with their pet - a great testament to the healthful, farm-fresh ingredients of each and every cookie!
